Kids have been one of the biggest groups for the Darwin Awards. This prestigious award goes out to the people who thankfully have enough intelligence to say, “That’s it, stop polluting the world with my genetic code.” However, they don’t do it by hanging themselves by the rafter with a belt. Instead, their deaths come from simply being too ignorant to stay around.
Now, 13-year-old Jacob Stevens will be accepting his award from inside the Pearly Gates because “he took a bunch of Benadryl” per a GoFundMe account his family posted. Inside the family home with “friends,” he hopped on the vital TikTok trend and quickly found himself on a ventilator for a week.
In response to his nomination and subsequent award, the makers of Benadryl, Johnson & Johnson, released a statement. “We understand that consumers may have heard about an online ‘challenge’ involving the misuse or abuse of diphenhydramine. The challenge, which involves ingestion of excessive quantities of diphenhydramine, is a dangerous trend and should be stopped immediately. BENADRYL® products and other diphenhydramine products should only be used as directed by the label.”
The embedding of the app into the social fabric of America spread just as quickly as their COVID misinformation. Given the app’s propensity to push dangerous and ignorant content onto kids in the US, it’s no wonder the feds have banned the app on government cell phones, and that many want the app banned without exemption.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is blamed for a lot of the atrocities that TikTok has caused, especially with his involvement with the app. However, this Darwin Award winner earned his trophy, don’t diminish his honor by blaming Xi alone. Instead, recognize this for what it is; natural selection evolving to keep up with 2023.
